Photos and Geology

Portfolio

Below is my photography portfolio. These are photos I've taken throughout the years and edited with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I am very proud of these photos, and I think they showcase my passion for photography and photo processing well. This album, as well as many other photos that I have taken and edited can be found on my Flickr profile.

Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho

Below are a few photos from a recent backpacking trip I took to the Sawtooth Wilderness near Ketchum, Idaho. The Sawtooth Range is geologically fascinating- the northern region is formed from an Eocene Batholith with many peaks above 10,000 feet. There are myriad alpine lakes, formed from past glaciation

Olympic National Forest, Washington

Below are a some photos from a camping trip I took to the Olympic National Forest near Hoodsport, Washington. The Olympic Mountains are perhaps my favorite area to explore in Washington. The lack of any volcanic activity makes the range very unique, and it perfectly encapsulates the geology of coastal Washington. The unique obduction that created many of the basalt mountains is fascinating, not to mention the active glaciers that are scattered about the range!

Carbon Glacier, Mount Rainier National Park

Here are some photos from my time as a Glacial Research Assistant with PLU's Natural Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Program. These photos are from our 2 night trip to Carbon Glacier. The glaciation of Mount Rainier is incredibly important to me, as it has been the primary focus of my undergraduate research. The mechanics of alpine glaciers, as well as the implications these glaciers have on the inhabitants of Western Washington are very fascinating to me.

Windsor County, Vermont

Central Vermont is a very unique place to me, as someone born and raised on the west coast. What makes it interesting to me is the fact that the orogeny of the Green Mountains is much older than the Cascade Range of Washington State, and therefore has a much higher degree of weathering and metamorphism. Below are a few pictures from a recent trip I took to Windsor county. The first carousel shows mainly geologic photos, while the second carousel shows more artistic photos.
